French is the cuisine of choice for wealthier Americans, so wouldn’t they choose French wine also?
Is American or French wine more popular in the US?

I can’t really find what the statistics are for your question.
But let’s have a little common sense here and see what is known.
First, The US is among the top three wine consumption per capita countries in the world along with France and Italy,
Second, The US is among the top wine producing countries and produces much more wine than we import from any one country.
Also, just walk into any, I repeat, any wine store in the US and
see what is on their shelves. Unless they are a specialty shop, the US wines vastly outnumber those from France, Spain or Italy. And in recent years Australian wine is making an impact on US wine buyers, and the fastest growing imports today are from Argentina.
Simple supply and demand here, they fill their shelves with what sells the most.
